Microscope – In the 1880s, we discovered that there were organisms smaller than bacteria, but we couldn’t see them to know for sure. Ernst Ruska invented The Electron Microscope in 1933. It allows us to see very detailed images at the Atomic level. Siemens was first to produce them, and now they’re used in a variety of industries. They have helped us study and treat infectious outbreaks and helped study viruses to develop useful remedies.
FM Radio- AM radio was a major advancement in mass communications, but it suffered from a lot of noise. Edwin Armstrong invented wideband FM radio in 1933 after years of developing new radio recievers. FM radio has a good range at reasonable power levels, sounds great, and is more resistant to noise than AM. RCA rejected the immediate transition to FM, so Armstrong funded his own work. FM radio forever altered by helping to create new forms of music and exposing older forms to wider.
Nuclear Fission- X-rays and radioactivity were first discovered in 1896. Rutherford and Szilard did much work investigating radioactivity, but Szilard conceived of the chain reaction. Nuclear Fission uses neutrons to split atoms and create a heat-producing, energy-releasing chain reaction. Atomic weapons advanced throughout the 1950s, and the nuclear power industry arose by 1958. Nuclear power supplies 20% of the power grid, but nuclear warfare remains a threat.
Transistor- The vacuum tube triodes were signal amplifiers, but they consumed a lot of power and were unreliable. Bardeen, Shockley, and Brattain invented the transistor at Bell Labs in 1947. It’s a solid-state triode that amplifies signals, processes digital binary logic, and can be densely packed into very small areas. Billions of transistor radios were sold after being introduced in the 1950s, which led to new computers. The transistor helped bring about a massive technology and liberty revolution in our society in just 50 years.
I believe that we can advance as much as much in the 50 years if not more than that because the more technology discovered the faster we can advance atleast in some cases. As of today it is May 22, 2023 9:33 AM and in 50 years it’ll be May 22, 2073.
