It led to the card industry, commercialization of valentines day, and magazines began growing popularity during the 1850s. “Yellow journalism” also became popular.
The kerosene. Abraham Gesner born in Canada 1797, moved to England to become a doctor and became interested in geology after meeting Charles Lyell. He also practiced medicine and Geology back home in Canada and he invented the kerosene in 1846. Gesner formed a company in 1850 to sell lamps and oil and expanded into Northeastern US in 1854. An American inventor was competing with an inferior product meanwhile, Samual Kier founded American petroleum industry.
Antiseptics. Ignaz Semmelweis born in 1818 Budapest he went into obstetrics, worked in Vienna as a general hospital and he decided to solve the problem of the two clinics so he observed and recorded. he had a breakthrough after his friends death and had a eureka moment. He invented the antiseptic in 1847. Semmelweis reduced mortality from 18% to 2% in 1 month and his students spread the word.
The gas mask. Ancient cultures used masks so a Prussian inventor created a mask for mining in 1799 so that the coal particles wouldn’t get into peoples body and then die. Lewis P. Haslett invented a prototype of modern version in 1847 also it was probably intended to be used in Kentucky by coal miners. The use of chemical warfare by the Germans in world war 1 spread and development.
